Permanent Makeup (PMU) is a game-changer for those who want to simplify their daily routine while keeping their look flawless. Whether you're getting microblading, ombré powder brows, or another PMU service, a smooth experience starts before you walk into the studio.
At Ink N Beauty, we’re committed to creating stunning results while prioritizing safety, comfort, and client satisfaction. That’s why proper preparation matters. Here's how to get ready for your appointment and set yourself up for the best outcome.
Why PMU Prep Matters
Just like any cosmetic procedure, how you prepare can impact the final look and healing process. Ignoring pre-care instructions may lead to poor pigment retention, excessive scabbing, or uneven results. When you come prepared, your skin responds better to the treatment, and your healed results will be more vibrant and defined.
What to Do Before Your Appointment
1. Stay Hydrated and Well-Rested
Drink plenty of water and get a good night’s sleep before your appointment. Healthy, hydrated skin takes pigment more evenly and heals more quickly.
2. Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine
Skip the wine, coffee, or energy drinks at least 24 hours before your session. These can thin your blood and increase sensitivity, leading to more bleeding and pigment loss.
3. Pause Certain Skincare Products
Stop using retinol, acids (like AHA/BHA), and exfoliants at least 5–7 days before your appointment. These products can make the skin more fragile and increase the risk of irritation.
4. Don’t Wax or Tint
If you’re getting your brows done, avoid waxing, tinting, or threading them a week before your session. Your PMU artist will shape them precisely as part of the service.
5. Plan Around Events or Travel
There is a healing period after PMU. If you have weddings, vacations, or big events coming up, make sure to book your appointment at least 2–3 weeks in advance to allow time for healing and touch-ups if needed.
Things to Avoid Before Your Session
- No tanning or sunburns – Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds before your appointment. Sun-damaged skin is more sensitive and harder to work on.
- No blood-thinners – If medically safe to do so, skip aspirin, ibuprofen, and supplements like fish oil or vitamin E 24–48 hours before your appointment.
- No heavy workouts right before – Increased body heat and sweat can make the process more difficult and affect how pigment sets in your skin.
What to Expect at Ink N Beauty
Our experienced PMU artists start every session with a consultation to discuss your goals and choose the right shape and color. Your comfort is our priority, so we use numbing creams and check in with you throughout the session.
We also provide detailed aftercare instructions to support the healing process and ensure your results last beautifully.

A little preparation goes a long way when it comes to permanent makeup. By following these pre-care steps, you’ll not only make your session more comfortable, but you’ll also enjoy smoother healing and better long-term results.
