You just had your permanent makeup (PMU) done—congrats! Whether it’s brows, lips, or eyeliner, knowing what to expect during the healing process is essential. At Ink n Beauty in Fort Worth, we prepare every client with a full aftercare plan and healing timeline. Here’s what you can expect during each stage of recovery.
Day 1: Fresh and Bold
- Your color will appear darker and more defined than expected.
- The skin may feel tight, slightly swollen, and tender.
- Don’t panic—this is completely normal!
👉 Pro Tip: Gently blot any lymph fluid with a clean tissue and follow aftercare instructions.
Days 2–4: Darkening and Scabbing Begins
- The pigment will look even darker.
- Scabbing or flaking may begin around brows, lips, or lash lines.
- Skin may feel itchy—resist the urge to scratch or peel!
👉 Pro Tip: Keep the area clean and lightly moisturized with the recommended ointment.
Days 5–7: Flaking and Patchy Phase
- Flaking increases as the skin sheds its top layer.
- Your PMU may appear patchy, uneven, or lighter than expected.
👉 Pro Tip: Don’t worry! This “ghosting” effect is part of the process. The pigment is still settling.
Days 8–14: Soft Color Returns
- Most of the flaking will be over.
- The pigment begins to resurface in a more natural tone.
- Color appears softer, lighter, and more blended.
👉 Pro Tip: Avoid direct sun, exfoliation, and heavy sweating during this time.
Weeks 4–6: Fully Healed (Before Touch-Up)
- The true color has settled, but you may notice small inconsistencies.
- This is totally normal and expected.
👉 Pro Tip: A follow-up appointment is scheduled to refine shape and color as needed.
